A myth busted

Now I don’t fault the gay porn industry for this because they are just going after a untapped market. You know as well as I do that Gay men fantasize about seducing straight men. It is just a part of our nature. But if any of you have ever succeeded in this endeavor you know that it is not all that it is cracked up to be. Yeah you get to suck some straight boy dick and maybe you get him to fuck you but then after it is all said and done you are still sitting there wishing he was gay.

So with this in mind I am sitting here writing this little post about the fraud that is being put out there by several online companies who claim that they have these straight boys going through special training to have and enjoy gay sex. Yes we all know who they are and we all know that it is bullshit but we watch it anyway because we think it is hot.

So that brings me to the subject of gay for pay. Now there are some guys who do perform in gay porn who are truly straight. And this is quite obvious by the lack of enthusiasm they show on film. We will not deal with them right now. But there are also the gay boys who also are "straight for pay" who perform in gay porn and hope that you believe that they are straight. The one thing pornography is about is fantasy and that really is all.

Why does anyone care who the porn star fucks when they are not in front of the camera? If it’s not you then it really should not matter. Look these men are doing what they want to do on camera and as far as I know no one is holding a gun to their heads making them do it. It really is all about making a dollar and that is it. They fuck for cash and you get the opportunity to watch it. Some of the guys show real enthusiasm and some don’t. As far back as I can remember in my many years of watching porn it was always a undercurrent that these boys were being seduced into gay sex. Thus fulfilling a fantasy that the porn watcher has always had.

Now we all know that the best sex you are going to have with a man is with someone who is out and proud. We seem to be less inhibited by the whole man on man thing. But as long as we in the gay community have this idea about seducing straight men there will always be porn based on this fantasy. So does that mean that "gay for pay" is here to stay? I think it is just like "straight for pay" is. So to all of those men who find it upsetting that there are straight men performing in gay porn there are just as many gay men pretending to be straight performing in gay porn.

Do you get it now? Porn is about fantasy or to be more blatant it is all about lies to fool you into thinking that these people are having real sex like you have in your own bedrooms at home. They just happen to be on a set with several people watching them with bright lights and a camera shoved up their ass and some guy off to the side telling them to "moan louder" and to "move that hand it is blocking the shot". Porn is a job just like selling shoes or working at a computer all day. There are good things about it and there are bad. Some people don’t like their jobs and some people do like their jobs and you can always tell the ones who do like their jobs.

In my opinion who really cares who the models are fucking off screen as long as the fucking that they do on screen is hot and gets you off. Because in the grand scheme of things that is really the point right? So let the boys fuck for our pleasure and leave their private lives alone unless it is some really scandalous gossip then you know we all need to talk about it.

Doctors say marrow transplant may have cured AIDS

Breaking News

With the recent bad news in California and a few other states with the passing of anti Gay laws the medical profession seems to be shining a bright light on the future of 33 million people world wide. They think that they might have found a way to eradicate the AID's virus. Most in the medical profession are leery of proclaiming it as a cure but the results are promising. There is more here.

Keith Oberman's comment on MSNBC

I was going through my blog roll and popped over to Brent's blog, no not that Brent the other Brent the one who just got married and his husband is celebrating a birthday, Scorpios rule. I read a moving post by him and saw a video by Keith Oberman of MSNBC which must of made anyone who supported the passage of proposition H8 feel like a total hypocrite. He laid it out there and made it perfectly clear that to deny anyone there rights is wrong. Not just in the eyes of those who were wronged but on so many other levels. I have said it all along that this really not about Marriage but the right to love and to have that love respected by the law of the land.

What he said totally moved me and inspired me to write this post and I think we should thank him and let him know that we really appreciate what he did for everyone, not just us. We can not let those who hate win this fight. Their hate will consume them and we should use love to win this fight. The reason we have a new President is because of the hate that George Bush represented. It is through the hate he fostered that has us in the sad financial situation we are currently in. It is George Bush's hate that has the standing of America so low in the eyes of the rest of the world.

It was George Bush's hate speak to us as Americans that made it possible for this amendment to pass. George Bush campaigned on this issue 4 years ago and his legacy will be that he divided this country. I for one will not sit here and let him do that. This is not a religious issue any more this is a issue that is more personal than that. This is a civil rights issue and just like we got the "Jim Crow laws" overturned we shall get this one overturned as well. The United States Constitution does not allow for this type of law to be passed. This will go to the United States Supreme Court and it will be overturned for the entire country. And all citizens will have the same rights. If they have to take marriage out of the Constitution and rewrite the laws it will happen.

This little act of selfishness will cause a backlash that those who voted for the ban will have never expected. Their very own marriages stand a good chance of being outlawed in favor for a more inclusive one. This country can not tolerate anymore segregation and discrimination especially in the eyes of God. God is love and God does not divide people. People do that themselves. To think that the word of some who claim that they have been spoken to by God and claim that they were told that it was OK to hate, is in my opinion blasphemy. They are using the name of God in vain. When you go to Church do you worship your Paster or do you worship your God?

I have personally been to far to many churches where the pastor stands at his pulpit and preaches hate in the name of God. My question to all of you who supported the passage of that hate bill is what are you scared of? All we want is the same right to love as you. Is it our love that scares you? You claim that we have an agenda. You seem to have the idea that we want to convert your children to be gay. Well the truth is you are the ones who are raising gay children. You are the ones who disown your gay child because they are gay. You are the ones who want to oppose your will on us yet you seem to think that we are the bad ones. You are so wrong on so many levels. You are just plain wrong!

The reasoning behind proposition 8 is flawed.

The idea that gay marriage will destroy the family structure is wrong. A man and a woman are not the only thing that makes a family. The family dynamic is based on love and trust and compassion. With more single parents raising children now and most of them are doing an excellent job I might add does not bode well for those who say that gay marriage will destroy a family.

Just like I do not believe that a man should be able to tell a woman not to have a abortion. I do not think that someone should be able to tell me who to love. The basis behind this proposition is to change the Constitution of California and to allow this group of people to legally discriminate. What is wrong with this picture.

The facts are clear why so many are opposed to gay marriage. They feel threatened by gay people and the fact that two people of the same sex can love each other disturbs them. Most people think that being gay is about sex. They also think that being gay is a choice they could not be more wrong. Why in gods name would anyone want to go against what they are taught from day one? To be different? Different is dying your hair blond when you are a brunette or getting a Mohawk hair cut or a tattoo.

Gay is not a choice or a life style. We just are, so I guess the rest of the world will just have to deal with it. The definition of a family is not as clear cut as it was once thought. If there is love and compassion that makes a family. The idea that two gay people would raise a gay child is as absurd as the notion of denying us the right to marry is.The fact is most gay children come from heterosexual families and that can not be denied.Gay people are gay because they are born that way. We are not made gay and you can not make a person gay.

Sex with a person of the same sex does not make you gay it just makes you adventurous or super horny. I really don't get the big deal about gay men wanting to have sex with straight men. What is the point? Don't get me wrong I love men, I find them sexy and fun but the idea of a straight guy is not a big turn on for me. I want a man who is as much turned on by me as I am by him so that pretty much excludes straight men because they want woman and I appreciate them for that.

I say keep the church out of the constitution and let the state deal with the laws. If you want to get married in a church that's fine but the church should not try and set public policy. The laws are written by the state and they are set in place to protect us and they should not be there to segregate us. I say equal rights for all citizens and I do mean all of US. Protect civil rights and vote no on proposition 8

Shelter

I was surfing the Internet the other night checking to see what was new in Gay cinema and I ran across a movie trailer for a film called "Shelter". It looked interesting so I did a little research on it and found a website with a clip from it. I did not even watch the whole clip because I did not want it to ruin the movie for me. Just watching 1 minute of that clip made me want to see the whole movie. This indie flick is made by Here TV. It was written and directed by Jonah Markowitz, who I must say did a excellent job of fleshing out the characters and getting stellar performances from the cast of highly capable actors. This is a great movie and it left me wanting more.

Zach (Trevor Wright) is torn between what he thinks is his duty and what he really needs and wants from life and the choices he has to make for his own happiness while dealing with the off and on relationship with his high school girlfriend Tori (Katie Walder) and his needy selfish sister Jeanie (Tina Holmes) who is a single mother and his nephew Cody (Jackson Wurth). Now I am not much for kid actors because they can be annoying but this kid was great. When his best friend Gabe ( Ross Thomas) who is a total surfer dude is back in town from school for the day they hang out. When Zack goes to Gabe’s parents beach house to retrieve his surf board he runs into Gabe’s older brother Shaun (Brad Rowe). Shaun is a writer and he is staying at the empty beach house until his new place in LA becomes available. Now I don’t want to give away anymore of the movie because it is just so well done.

The play between the characters is so subtle that it is hard to believe they are acting but acting they are and doing a damn fine job of it. From the urban setting of San Pedro to the beautiful beaches of Laguna and Malibu with scenes of surfing and crashing waves, great sunsets and a wonderful soundtrack this movie makes you want to be there. All I can say is that you should rent this or buy this movie because it is great. It does not play on stereotypes and it shows you that true acceptance begins with yourself and the only definition of a family is love.

So go see it and Vote no on prop 8.

30th Anniversary party for the Trocadaro Transfer.

The year was 1977 and being gay at that time was just not that cool and I was not even out of the closet yet. But things were changing fast and San Francisco had their first openly gay supervisor. It was also the year that Dan White shot and killed the Mayor, George Moscone and the first gay supervisor, Harvey Milk.

So picture this a scared 18 year-old young man goes to a gay dance club for the first time with 4 of his straight friends. We had just watched "Saturday Night Fever" and disco was the big thing. We heard about this club from a friend from High school. He said it was really fun and the crowd there was outrageous. It was a new club and it was so exclusive you had to be a member or you had to know someone to get in. Our friend told us all about it and said he could get us in if we wanted to go. So we decided to go. This club was in the South of Market area of San Francisco in the warehouse district and there was not much near it but a bunch of Leather bars. The thought of them scared me at the time they are not my thing but I ain’t scured of them anymore.

The club was painted all black and the windows were blacked out it had a black awning in front of it and a line down the block. We were scared to go in but we were also scared that they would not let us in as well. The doorman would look you up and down and he would determine if you were worthy and could get in or not. We watched several people get turned away before we finally got to the door. The doorman, His name was Les, asked for my membership card and I told him I was a guest of a member and he said the member had to be there with us so we could get in. We had been in line for over a hour and we it was getting cold and we were totally freaked out about the whole situation and we were about to turn and bolt from the scene when my friend came out to look for us.

When we finally got in I was amazed the club was huge. There were men in all states of dress and undress woman dancing topless, people in formal attire, fan dancers, Leather Daddies and anything else that you could imagine. The light show was out of this world and in the center of the room was a cluster of mirror balls unlike anything I had ever seen before. The music was loud but not to loud and the sound was clear as a bell. It was just amazing. It was like stepping through a portal and being jettisoned to another planet where you could be who and whatever you wanted to be. We were still scared shitless and my friends I and hung together for dear life. Now what was funny was that all of my friends and I were on the swim team in high school and you might have guessed it, they were all blondes and me being a tall black guy, we garnered a lot of attention that evening. I guess we were all considered twinks at the time but we did not even know what that was at the time. We all got allot of men who wanted to dance with us but we were to scared so we danced with each other. After a few drags from a joint that my friend offered us we chilled out and began to really have fun. We danced all night long and we did not get home until 5am the next morning. Little did we know that we had just gone to the premiere West Cost dance club at the time.

The Trocadaro Transfer was San Francisco’s version of Studio 54. It was a place to dance to the best music of the time with the best dancers on the West Coast. This club was huge, on an average night there would be thousands of dancers there and it would go all night long. Sometimes it would not close until noon on Sunday and when it did we would all run over to the Endup for Sunday church. The Trocadaro Transfer or The Troc as those who were regulars called it was a real fun club to go to if you loved to dance and I loved to dance. So as you may have guessed I became a regular there. I was there from the early days and I was there on the night they closed their doors for the last time 12 years later. Funny thing is the Troc would not die it was the club that other clubs would strive to be like but never quite achieved. It was a place where you could see and meet the latest musical acts performing their latest chart topping hits and dance with the rich and famous. It was a place where it did not matter if you were rich or poor as long as you had fun. In a word the club was magic.

During my tenure there I meet and became great friends with quite a few people and we are still in touch to this day. Some did not make it through the aids crisis but amazingly allot of us did. I guess twirling to the "thumpa thumpa" kept us out of allot of trouble. Well about 5 years ago they decided to have a reunion party for the "Trocodetts", that’s what we were called. And I got an email out of the blue about the upcoming party. I made a few calls to see if it was legit and low and behold it was. So I emailed a friend about it and we decided to go and then we emailed a few others. But what was really amazing is that it started a ground swell of interest and the emails were flying. Soon a friend informed me that they were expecting over a thousand former "Trocodetts" to be at the party

So on the day of the party as we are all arriving at the club it was just a huge hugfest. Oh and yes the party was held in the original building and it was just unreal. It was like a high school reunion but it was fun. I saw people who I had not seen in 10 to 15 years and we all just hugged and laughed about how much fun we had and cried about who was missing. Well that first reunion party was the first of many more and this past Sunday was the latest one. It was the 30th anniversary party of the opening day of The Trocadaro Transfer. What was amazing is that the place was packed and there were a lot of younger gay men there as well as the old stalwarts. The music was classic disco and allot of the songs were re-mixed and refreshed and I as usual was on the dance floor most of the night.

The lights were hot the music was hot and the men were hot. The cute thing was that most everyone was wearing Pearls, the symbol of 30 years. It is really hard to convey what it was like to go to the Troc. The closest thing that I have seen to explain what it was like was the club "Babylon" on Queer as Folk. I must say that I will definitely be at the next party too. I had so much fun at our little alley picnic after the club closed it was hilarious. The best thing is we can all still party all night just like we did 20 years ago. Watching my friends dance to the music and seeing the joy on their faces made me feel so happy I could not even begin to express it to you. To all of the "Trocetts" out there I love you all and you made my night a blast. I will be looking for you at the next party. Happy 30th to all my peeps.

Memories of Gay Pride

The first Gay Pride Parade that I ever went too as a Gay Boi was the one in 1980. It was an eye opening experience to say the least. I had come out in February of that year and was fairly new to the whole gay scene. You know when you live in the Bay Area you grow up with a slightly different attitude towards things. I had been to gay clubs but I was still under the impression that I was "straight". I mean I had a girlfriend and we had regular sex and did all the things that a couple would do but to say the least something was missing. She broke up with me which was a game she liked to play when she did not get her way and when I told her that this time would be the final time, she broke up with me anyway. I did not get back together with her and she was pissed because she did not get her way but to say the least I was free to be me. So I started to hang out and make new friends and renew friendships with people who I knew were gay. Soon I had a nice group of people who’s company I enjoyed. We were all talking about the whole gay pride thing one night and we all decided to go to the parade. My group of friends and I all met up in the Castro at the Patio CafĂ© for breakfast and plotted out our day. We got the parade route really early and staked out a good vantagepoint.
Mind you it was before cell phones and you had to be where you said you would be at a certain time or the chances of meeting up with your friends was slim. The parade started in the Castro and went to the Civic Center where the entertainment and concessions stands were.
The parade started with the roar of Dykes on Bikes and it was on from that point. Mind you this was before the Aids crisis and everyone was full of optimism and the sexual energy was fierce.
There were Floats from all the major clubs and the porn studios even had floats. There were hot half-naked men everywhere and my neck hurt from looking at all of them. Half way through the parade we started to walk to the Civic Center where we were going to a roof party on one of the office buildings. My friend Scott worked for the planning commission and the building had a roof garden.. From there you could see the whole plaza and watch the end of the parade and see and hear the main stage. It was a wild time up there we could see everything that was going on. We would go down to the plaza and hang out and then run back up to the roof. There were four different areas where clubs had set up outside dancing. There was any and every kind of food at the different booths. There were live acts on the stage form the music industry and comedy and politicians. I am a little foggy on this but I believe that music was Sylvester and Thelma Houston to name a couple of the musical acts. There were half a million people there from all over the world and it was a beautiful day. The whole thing was magical, the special brownies helped I’m sure but it is still a fairly vivid memory to this day. After the roof party ended we all went to the
Endup which as the name implies is just what it is, the bar where everyone ends up. it was so crowded but it was fun we danced and drank and partied until they closed then it was time to go to the Trocadaro Transfer. We partied and danced until the sun came up. It was a fun time and I had a blast. Oh to be twenty-one again with all that enthusiasm and energy again. This was the beginning of my journey of self-discovery and it is an ongoing process. There have been my other pride weekends since and hopefully god willing there will be plenty more.
This little trip down memory lane is all because it is upon us again. San Francisco pride is this next weekend and I may go after I get off work. It just depends on what my work schedule is like the following week. But if you are in the neighborhood you should go and experience on of the premiere Gay Pride events that this country has to offer. While you are there say a prayer for all those who are no longer here to celebrate with you and be nice to those who are here. Life is to short and unpredictable to make enemies. So have a happy and safe pride weekend and make some one proud of you.

This Elmystrio and I’m out.
